Hurdle Cabin
A modern-rustic cabin created as a private family escape on a large wooded property—peaceful enough to feel removed from the world, yet close enough to reach the city in about 20 minutes.
The brief
Create a place where the family could truly get away.
The family wanted a retreat that felt connected to the land without giving up the convenience of being near the city.
The design centers daily life in one open living, dining, and kitchen space, then places the bedrooms and baths around that shared heart. Covered porches extend the home into the wooded setting, while the gravel arrival and creekside backyard give each side of the property a clear purpose.
Exterior + setting
A quiet cabin that belongs in the woods.
Muted green siding, warm cedar, a charcoal standing-seam roof, continuous fieldstone, and native landscaping give the modest footprint a strong sense of place.

Designed for family time
The shared spaces stay open, warm, and easy to live in.
The kitchen, dining area, fireplace, and living room work as one connected gathering space, while the bedroom wings give family members privacy when they need it.
Interior visualization
Modern-rustic comfort without overbuilding the cabin.
A wood ceiling, natural cabinetry, olive-green accents, leather, creamy upholstery, black metal, and layered textures make the compact plan feel finished and inviting.

Whole-home clarity
See how every room connects before construction begins.
The furnished dollhouse view brings the three-bedroom, three-bath plan together at a glance. It gives the family a clear way to evaluate circulation, furniture placement, porch access, and the relationship between private rooms and the open center of the cabin.

Hurdle Cabin balances privacy, connection, and easy access to the outdoors in a home that feels comfortably removed without being isolated.
